Dear God,

Why me? It seems everywhere I go there is drama. Today, I had to fight one of the neighborhood boys off of me. Mama still isn’t home and me and Sissy don’t have any food. Why are you doing this to me? What did I do? Whatever it was, I’m sorry. I promise I won’t do it again. Please stop the pain I feel in my heart. I can’t take it anymore. Amen.

Chapter

Twelve

Dear God,

It’s been a few days since we’ve seen Mama. Sissy keeps asking questions, but I don’t know what to tell her. We have one more pack of soup left. I’ll give that to Sissy in the morning. Also, Me and Sissy haven’t washed clothes since she’s been here. If Mama doesn’t come tonight, I’m going to go over Aunt Mary’s house, call Donny and tell him everything. What could be so important that she leaves us for so long? Please tell Mama to come home. I don’t know what to do. Amen.
